Internet-PARs - Home About Internet-PARs

Internet Personal & Academic Records (PARs) are Web based record systems, used and kept by institutions, tutors, and learners working together. They record the academic and personal development of individuals and the processes by which an institution provides them with support. They encourage individuals to reflect upon and take increasing responsibility for the management of their own learning and development.

Internet-PARs integrate disparate activities into a single system which is designed to fulfil three important functions:

  • supporting student progress and making optimal use of scarce tutorial time.
  • helping to maximise academic achievement and skills/career development
  • streamlining learner-related admin for academics/employers.
They draw together both corporate ("CIS" / "HR") data and personal data maintained by learners and their tutors. Authenticated users are able to access their personalised data using their familiar Web Browser (such as Netscape, MS-Explorer etc.) making the system readily available on a range of different platforms (PC/Windows, Mac, Unix etc).

Internet-PARs have been developed jointly by the University of Newcastle and the University of Nottingham. With DfEE funding Internet-PARs were developed for undergraduates and are currently being applied CPD (continuing professional development) in Medicine (pre-registration house officers) and Education (newly-qualified teachers). Further details of the CPD in Medicine site can be viewed at http://mypimd.ncl.ac.uk/.
