The processes of structuring personal development planning (PDP) for undergraduates and supporting reflective progress review, target setting and action planning have much in common with well-established processes of CPD in employment. Key questions to consider include:

  • What continuities can we achieve for students entering professional areas, between PDP in higher education and CPD in their working world?
  • Can these continuities operate both in terms of reflective practice and in relation to the use of technology to support career development?
  • What can be learnt from current thinking about CPD across a range of professional areas to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the content and processes of the HE Progress File schemes which we are developing for our undergraduates?

The programme will include on-line demonstrations of the web-based systems developed by Newcastle and Nottingham universities to support students progressing into CPD in Medicine and Education. There will also be a range of participatory workshops on discipline-specific issues in further professional areas and on the major implications of CPD for undergraduate PDP in general.
